For the first week, I didn't know what to write so I decided that I would just forget about it. But, last Friday I got some results that looked like something I could publish. The problem was that my parents were in town for the three day weekend. -- Obviously, nothing got done.
Tuesday and Wednesday, I had a contractor in from Sweden. -- Nothing got done.
Thursday and Friday, I tried to do my job. -- I did get a little bit of patchwork done from old papers in creating definitions, etc.
Saturday, I decided that I would work on the paper during Kate's nap. But, the morning activity was attending our next door neighbor's fifth grade football game. This is serious stuff around here, including 12 cheerleaders and a lot of people in the bleachers. My favorite comment about the football game, came the day before when Hilary asked, "when you talked to him (the fifth grader) did you ask him what color his uniforms are." -- its football, not some designer show!
Anyway, it was really hot at the game. To the point that I held a ice pack on Henry's back for most of the game. After all the sun and heat, I was incapable of writing the paper. And, last night was a block party. -- Nothing got done.
So, today after going to church I was finally started working on the paper at 2pm. It took three hours to write up my new results. That is when I realized that given that the conference is a European conference, the deadline wasn't midnight my time, but midnight in Europe, i.e., 5pm here. Oops, I had 5 minutes to submit the paper! But, I made it. I thought I would have the evening to review...
Well I admit that the paper is not the best, and I am not sure that it will be accepted. I am also a little disappointed in myself for procrastinating (one more time), but I am happy that I submitted it. Plus, I feel like I just took my last final exam. I have thought about this paper for two weeks, and I am happy that I don't have to think about it again until it gets rejected or accepted (pass/fail?) I am promising myself that if it gets accepted that I will submit the final version with more than 5 minutes to spare.
