Morning walk
As many of you know, I love to brag about my walk to work. Especially now that the temperatures are not in the 100s. Of course, it all comes to an end in January when we move into our new building that is about 10 miles away. Still not a bad commute, but I am definitely not walking it.

Yesterday morning I was walking to work while doing a sudoku. Hilary is always worried that I am going to get run over while I do this (she always quotes some statistic about how PhDs are more likely to get run over.)

Anyway, I was walking in the gutter and stepped next to this:

At the last second, I saw what I almost stepped on and quickly jumped into traffic. (Good thing there was no traffic.) Plus, it was a good thing it was already dead. Nothing like a copperhead to get your heart racing.

Right now, I am considering giving up the morning sudoku.

PS. Snake notes: This snake was over 2 feet long. It looked like it had just been killed. This morning when I went to see if it was still in the gutter, the only thing there was a pile of raccoon poop.
This was the 5th different type of snake I have seen this summer.
This summer, I have been averaging seeing at least one (live) snake every two weeks.
